Help and FAQ
Why isn’t TRUMP ERASER working on my home page?
Great question! Don’t worry—you’re not imagining it, and yes, the extension is working!
Some browsers (like Microsoft Edge, Chrome, and Firefox) use a built-in home page that isn’t a normal website (even if it looks like one)—it’s more like a dashboard owned by the browser itself.
For privacy and security reasons, extensions like Trump Eraser aren’t allowed to run on these internal pages. But the moment you visit a regular website—like a news site or social media feed—the extension will kick in automatically.
👉 Pro Tip: Want to see Trump Eraser in action as soon as your browser opens? Set your home page to something like Google News or your favorite site.
It’s easy in Chrome and Firefox—just head to your browser’s settings and set a custom startup page.
Microsoft Edge, however, is trickier. While the settings page makes it look like you can change your new tab or home page, it won’t fully override the built-in MSN start page.
To get around that, you’ll need a helper extension like Custom New Tab, available in the Edge Add-ons Store.
⚠️ Please note: this isn’t a formal endorsement of Custom New Tab. Custom New Tab appears to be well-behaved and very easy to use (it’s what we use)—but if you’re planning to change Edge’s default page behavior, we recommend doing your own research first.

Just another way to take the edge off.

Will This Break Any Websites?
Trump Eraser is built to be lightweight and non-invasive. It doesn’t interfere with page functionality—it just swaps out text. That said, some sites may “flash” the original text before it gets replaced, especially on slower connections or ad-heavy pages. But it won’t break page behavior.
Why is the replacement fast on some pages and slow on others?
Not all web pages are created equal.
Trump Eraser works by walking through every visible (non-input) part of a page to do its job. On simple sites, that’s a short stroll. But on more complex pages—especially ones with tons of elements and ads—it’s more of a marathon.
Some sites load content dynamically (like social media or news feeds). That means while the page is still changing, the extension is already trying to replace text—so it has to keep listening, watching, and working in real time. And yes, Trump Eraser is built to handle that… but it may take a few seconds.
There are also pages that take a long time to fully load. The extension waits until the page is ready before it starts processing—otherwise it could miss or mangle the content.
What to expect:
- On most sites, replacements happen instantly or within a second or two.
- On busy, complex, or ad-heavy pages, it could take up to 10 seconds, with 5–6 seconds being typical.
- Sometimes, pages with a lot of ads run background scripts that get stuck and slow everything down. If it seems stuck or takes too long, try stopping the page and refreshing—that usually clears things up.
If I save more than one nickname, how does it decide which one to use?
Every time Trump Eraser finds an instance of his name on a page, it picks one of your saved nicknames completely at random from your list.
So if you’ve saved multiple nicknames, you’ll get a mix—each replacement is a roll of the dice.
This keeps the experience fresh—and often hilarious.

What can I do to ensure that Trump Eraser remains an actively developed extension?
Glad you asked—because there are a few small things that’ll make a huge difference:
- Leave a Positive Review
Every web store (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) gives you a chance to leave a rating and a review. If you’re enjoying Trump Eraser, a 5-star rating and a few kind words really helps others find it—and keeps this project alive.
🙏 Pro tip: keep the commentary about the extension and not political rants.
(There’s a place for that, and it ain’t there.) - Spread the Word
Tell your like-minded friends. Share your honest (and hopefully glowing) review on social media. But be careful if posting screenshots—some platforms still enforce terms of service, and we’d hate to see you get flagged for showing off your creativity. - ☕ Buy Me a Coffee ☕
This extension is a passion project—no ads, no tracking, no corporate funding. Just me, a laptop, a pile of browser tabs, and WAY more caffeine than my doctor recommends.- If Trump Eraser is making your browsing better (or at least more bearable), “Buy Me a Coffee” is a great way to support continued development.
- Your contribution helps:
- Keep the extension free for everyone
- Cover browser store fees, testing, and updates
- Fund future improvements (like more customization or Safari support)
- Most importantly: fuel the caffeine addiction keeping this project alive
No pressure—Trump Eraser will always be here for you, coffee or no coffee.
But if you’d like to say thanks and help keep it going…
